Governance Restructure for NZISA

The NZISA Board (formerly Executive Committee) voted to change the governance structure of the NZISA at an SGM held on the 27th of July. This followed an almost year long process that started after the 2025 AGM. A Subcommittee consisting of 6 members each from a different NZISA member club worked to develop a new governance structure that involves an elected 6 member board which will be supported by a number of subcommittees.

For our community there is no change to the current schedule of regular events or how clubs participate in NZISA events, this change is related to internal governance.

The move to a smaller board helps distributes the core executive workload of governance across more people with more defined roles and areas of responsibility. It also allows more people to be involved in the NZISA in their specific areas of interest and with less time commitment through subcommittees that relate to specific events or particular areas of work.

The Board Portfolios

The six board positions/portfolios are:

  • President - Leads the board and organisation to deliver on the NZISA’s strategic goals

  • Secretary - Responsible for the administrative tasks of the Board and is the contact point for the comminunity

  • Financial Advisor - Ensures the NZISA is in a stable financial position now and into the future by exploring sources of funding and our future financial needs.

  • Tournament Liason - Works with the various tournament subcommittees to ensure preparation for and execution of the NZISAs events continues to deliver for our community.

  • New Sports - Looks for opportunities to grow the NZISA into new areas of the Indian sporting community

  • Communications - Looks at ways to promote the NZISA to a wider community across various media including traditional and social media.

New Board Members

The board positions were elected by club delegates at the 2026 NZISA AGM on the 19th of September in Christchurch. Suresh Wallabh will continue as the NZISA’s President, Kalesh Patel as Secretary and Kirit Makan in the expanded Financial Advisor role (formerly titled Treasurer.) Hansa Parbhu will take on the important Tournament Liason role, Pravin Lalloo leads the New Sports portfolio and Kiran Parbhu will take the role of Communications Officer.

The new board has begun to meet and is ready to continue advancing the NZISA for our community. A big thank you to the outgoing Executive Committee who have worked hard to serve the NZISA.

We Welcome Community Involvement

We remain a volunteer and community driven organisation and we ecourage you to get involved. One aspect of this change is about creating opportunities for members of the community to be involved in organising and runnning NZISA events they have a specific interest in. This means you no longer have to devote time to areas that you don’t have an interest in so you can concentrate on the things you enjoy. If you are interested in being involved in the organisation of a particular sport/event/area of work get in touch with your club or with a board member to discuss joining a subcommittee. You can contact via the contact form here or at secretary@nzisa.org.nz
